My Journey | Surfing The Simple Way

What I learnt while travelling around the globe in search of the best surfing spots is that very few people actually provide any trustworthy information on where to surf without necessarily having to drive. I personally prefer to be in one place for an entire week or even more, surfing different spots in the surrounding area without always packing up and moving on. But most surf guides seemed to presume that I’d have a car.

I wanted to base myself in a single surf town, often in hostels, and explore multiple nearby breaks. The ideal setup was having surf spots within a 5km radius, easily accessible on foot, by bike, or with short public transport ride. I didn’t want the hassle of renting a car, paying insurance, dealing with unfamiliar road rules, sometimes driving on the other side of the road, or risking extra costs. Why worry about all that when you can simply walk or ride to your waves?

About - Surf Without a Car

Costa Rica, Peru, Australia, Sri Lanka, the United States, Panama, Mexico, Morocco, and Portugal, I’ve surfed them all. These are the countries with so many waves near town that I could immerse myself in the local culture and surf day after day, truly experiencing the place instead of just passing through.

This is why surfwithoutacar.com is born, to open these places to surfers like you. Each destination is one where you can find a central place to stay and access multiple surf spots whole within 5 km from your accommodation. No car needed!

We’ve also outlined how to get to those spots from the nearest airports and have included tips for flat days, whether it be checking out the area, sampling local food, or hitting up other fun activities.

With this guide, I hope you will be inspired to visit these surf towns and enjoy rides at several breaks within walking distance of where you are staying.
